Russia's Duma To Fight Illegal Immigrantion
Russia's Duma approved a resolution about the draft decree "On measures to fight illegal immigration and to regulate migratory processes on the Russian territory". According to RIA Novosti news agency, 361 deputies voted in favour and only one voted against.
The resolution addresses to the Russian President asking him to pay attention to Russia's immigration policy. The Duma suggests changing agreements between countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States - a loose grouping of 12 formerly Soviet states - to toughen visa-free entry into Russia.
Five Duma's committees are behind this move. The document was presented by Dmitri Rogozin, the chairman of the Duma's International Affairs Committee. Rogozin told the session that about 10 million immigrants were currently living in Russia, five million had illegal status. Rogozin said it would be the first step to fight illegal immigration in Russia.
